In this module we will look at the ASSURE Model of preparing lesson plan. The method focus on the use of technology to make your lesson student centred. Visit the website and learn more about the ASSURE Model. Also check your email for Module 2 handout and course curriculum. http://www.nelliemuller.com/ASSURE.Instructional.Unit.The.Giver.htm

Once you have completed the readings locate a lesson plan on the internet and evaluate it using the ASSURE Module. Also share in our forum https://groups.google.com/group/technologyineducation-secondary2012/browse_frm/thread/e5dcdf645bf8b42a?hl=en#
Preparing a lesson plan and evaluating it by what ive looked at in the module given was quite interesting. The importance of the use of technology and different media in the classrooms can improve a child's way of understanding the information better. Also, allowing them to retrieve the information on their own and presenting it in different form whether by play, projects, class discussion or written report and later assessing that child to evaluate whether the information collected was consumed correctly. i find this way of planning lessons would be very essential for our future use.
ReplyDeleteThe information read was an eye opener. I am now understanding the importance of student/child centered teaching. The ASSURE model encourages group work, more use of technology in researching and presenting information. The students are also guidelines so they know what to research and how they are being rewarded. I found a lesson plan on Health- Recovering from bad health geared towards students 9-12 yrs old. from what i read the lesson plan was based on the ASSUME model and it was very interesting. This method will be very useful to me when i return to the classroom and it will give me new and exciting ways to plan my lessons.
ReplyDeleteThe ASSURE model, as was stated by colleagues before, has really enlightened me. I have seen lesson plans in my field many times - but never really understood what a lot of the other components that were in the lesson plans. After viewing the whole idea of ASSURE and how it works, it all makes sense now.
ReplyDeleteGranted we may not have ALL of what the American classrooms may have - with our limitations, I can assure you that the ASSURE process :-) will be used when I get back to the classroom.
Thank you for exposing this to us.
I was wondering when we would get to that detail ( limited resources) that may be the struggle we face with implementing this method. another struggle may be time. We do not always have enough time with each group to properly evaluate them i have had years where i am teaching almost 300 students across so many different levels.
DeleteI think it becomes more practical if you have an individual room working with rather than the teacher having to move from class to class.
DeleteThe ASSURE model is a great way of getting maximum class participation. When i compared the lesson plan i read with the ASSURE method i found that it lacked group work. the teacher showed a video and then had class discussion to come up with examples then individual work was given.
ReplyDeleteWhen i reenter the classroom i will definitely try and incorporate
ASSURE into my lesson plans
http://assurelessonplan.blogspot.com/ This lesson plan is fully based entirely on the ASSURE lesson plan. It followed all the steps and encouraged a student centered learning. It is the best form of creating a lesson plan that i have come across.
ReplyDeletecan you make a statement as finite as that without trying the method first?
DeleteIn theory to me it is. Practically it may not be. That's why i said it is the best one that i came across.

ReplyDeleteThis lesson plan utilized the ASSURE model, it follows all the steps listed. First the teacher analyze his learners he knew that his tenth grade class had difficulty reading and so he planned his lesson bearing that in mind, and because they had difficulty reading he also selected and used the appropriate media,, methods and material which was a PowerPoint presentation on the computer and also worksheets. By guiding students how to open the PowerPoint presentation and giving them the worksheet to fill out which require learners participation. The teacher then evaluate and revise by collecting and grading the worksheets.
This type of lesson plan method may take a bit more time however it seems that it will cater to each type of learner . There is no ideal for everyone at any time but it may be worth giving this a try if it will at least boost the percentage of students who grasp what is intended to be learnt from each lesson you plan

ReplyDeleteI love the lesson plan because it is a detailed lesson and it provides for the students to be very active.I the lesson the teacher used more than one media and materials to make sure that all the students needs are met.I was impressed with the preparation of the classroom environment to ensure effective learning.
If i had known about the ASSURE MODEL my classes would come alive on theory days.Getting to know your students before classes, would gear you to create different methods and materials needed, which will have a different impact. the ASSURE MODEL has definitely given me some new and creative ideas for my classes in my planning. I love it.
ReplyDeleteWhat really impressed me about the ASSURE Module is that it is universal, in that it can be applied to all subject areas. Since it's focus is on ensuring that specific, relevant information, that would allow for a more thought-through lesson is designed, it makes your lessons more efficient. I realized that I had already started being more thorough in my lesson plans since I adopted the template in the book issued by ministry. Nonetheless, following the guidelines should make them more precise and in turn make me more prepared as a teacher to function in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteThe ASSURE model is a detailed method to ensure that there is equality in learning taking place in the classroom.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.microsoft.com/education/en-us/teachers/plans/Pages/scientific-experiments.aspx. This lesson plan seemed to closely follow the ASSURE model. The only aspect of this method that I didn't see much attention being given to, in the lesson plan, was an analysis of the learners.
ReplyDeleteI found this lesson plan. There is no analysis of the learners. It has objectives but they are not as detailed as in the ASSURE Method. it does not mention the targeted audience. The behaviour expected is specified in the learning outcomes. The degree of accuracy is not detailed. There is use of media and materials. The evaluation is vague.http://www.microsoft.com/education/en-us/teachers/plans/Pages/calculating_profits.aspx
ReplyDelete'The work that is asked of students must
ReplyDeletebe authentic work that is relevant and that mirrors real life.' this is from the readings we were sent i like this thought and it makes a lot of sense . we shouldn't bore the children and waste their time teaching them things they will never need or have no idea where they can apply them to their life.
to many times during my student life i have sat in a class thing why on earth do i need to know this?
